Hosting Haven

These clients love hosting and wanted a bar and storage area for their basement.

In the bar area, Louise designed the upper cabinets to have an ultra-modern look, using chrome frames with clear glass doors and shelves. Over the sink, floating shelves were installed to display some of the awesome collector items that add to the ‘man cave’ feel. Taking the colour from the 1966 Mustang Shelby hood, Louise used a finish called Caliente, which also provides a great contrast to the chrome finish of the backsplash. The quartz countertop in London Grey was given a 3” miter profile edge, and an additional piece of the same stone covers the wall beside the bar, creating a grand ambiance in the modern space.

From the start, she knew it would be a unique project that could have a lot of amazing features. Her goal here was to create a sleek, modern space that would be perfect for entertaining, and at the same time find ways to create storage.

To utilize what could have been wasted space, Louise designed a unique storage solution for under the staircase. She utilized some of the design elements from the bar to create a cohesive, modern atmosphere that spanned the entire space. She used a 2” MDF shaker door style, hardrock maple interiors, and dovetail drawers with soft close features. The hardware has a chrome and brushed nickel finish, which matches the modern chrome features in the bar. The custom unit was finished with Thunder, a colour chosen to complement the gorgeous hardwood.

In the end, Louise created a downstairs living space that is perfect for entertaining no matter the occasion.
